Diagnostic & Prescriptive Limitations

I cannot diagnose or prescribe treatment. I can share general educational information and guide you on what to discuss with a healthcare professional.

What to Do When You Feel Sick (General Guidance)

Because you have not given specific symptoms (for example: fever, cough, vomiting, stomach pain), I’ll share general steps that are usually helpful for mild illness. For anything serious, or if you are unsure, it is safest to see a doctor.

1. Basic Self-Care

  • Rest: Try to sleep more and avoid heavy physical work or intense exercise.
  • Fluids: Drink plenty of water. You can also take coconut water, clear soups, or ORS if you feel weak or dehydrated. Avoid sugary soft drinks and excess caffeine.
  • Light Food: Eat small, light meals (khichdi, dal-rice, curd rice, toast, boiled vegetables). Avoid very oily, spicy, or heavy food.
  • No Smoking or Alcohol: These can worsen many illnesses and slow recovery.
  • Monitor Your Symptoms: Note what symptoms you have (fever, cough, body pain, loose motions, etc.) and how many days they have lasted. This helps when you see a doctor.

2. Over-the-Counter Medicines – Be Careful

  • Do not self-medicate with antibiotics or strong painkillers. These should be taken only if a doctor prescribes them.
  • Fever or mild pain: Many people use paracetamol-type medicines, but the correct dose and frequency depend on age, weight, and other health problems. A doctor or pharmacist should guide you.
  • Avoid taking many combination cold & flu tablets together. You can accidentally take too much of the same drug.
  • If you are pregnant, have kidney/liver/heart problems, diabetes, or are on regular medicines, always ask a doctor before taking any new tablet.

Important: Do not start, stop, or change any medicine (including herbal or ayurvedic) without discussing it with a healthcare professional.

3. When to See a Doctor Soon

Contact a doctor or visit a clinic/hospital as soon as possible (ideally within 24 hours) if you have:

  • Fever above 38.5°C that lasts more than 1–2 days or keeps coming back.
  • Severe headache, neck stiffness, or pain around eyes.
  • Persistent vomiting, unable to keep fluids down, or very poor appetite.
  • Loose motions (diarrhoea) lasting more than 2 days or with blood/mucus.
  • Very bad body pain, joint pain, or weakness that is not improving.
  • Burning while passing urine, lower abdominal pain, or very frequent urination.
  • New rash on skin, especially with fever.
  • If you are already known to have a long-term illness (diabetes, heart disease, asthma, kidney disease) and feel more unwell than usual.

4. When It May Be an Emergency

Go to the nearest emergency department or call your local emergency number immediately if you have:

  • Severe chest pain, pressure, or discomfort, especially if it spreads to arm, neck, or jaw.
  • Difficulty breathing, fast breathing, or feeling like you cannot get enough air.
  • Sudden confusion, slurred speech, weakness on one side of the body, or trouble seeing.
  • Seizure/fits or if someone becomes unconscious or hard to wake.
  • Severe allergic reaction: swelling of lips/face/tongue, difficulty breathing, or widespread itchy rash with dizziness.
  • Very high fever with stiff neck or continuous vomiting.
  • Severe stomach pain, especially if it is sudden, worsening, or with vomiting blood/black stool.

If any of these happen to you or someone near you, do not wait at home—seek urgent medical help.

5. How I Can Help You Further

If you tell me:

  • Your main symptoms (for example: fever and cough, or vomiting and stomach pain)
  • How many days you have been unwell
  • Your age group (child, adult, elderly) and if you are pregnant or have major medical conditions

I can give you more general information about what people commonly do in such situations and what to ask your doctor, without diagnosing you or prescribing specific treatment.

I can help without needing personal medical details. Please avoid sharing sensitive information.
