Nexito Tablet – General Information

1. What is Nexito?

Nexito is a brand name (commonly used in India) for a medicine whose main active ingredient is usually escitalopram, an antidepressant belonging to the group called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). It is a prescription-only medicine.

Always check the strip/box or ask your pharmacist/doctor to confirm the exact formulation you have (e.g., Nexito 5, 10, 20, Nexito Plus, Nexito LS, etc.).

2. Contents / Composition

2.1 Common single-drug Nexito tablets

  • Active ingredient: Escitalopram (usually as escitalopram oxalate).
  • Strengths (may vary by brand): commonly 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg tablets (this is information only; the actual dose for you must be decided by your doctor).
  • Other ingredients (excipients): Tablet fillers, binders, colorants, etc. These vary by manufacturer and are listed on the package insert.

2.2 Combination products under the Nexito name (examples)

Some products use the Nexito name in combination with other medicines. For example (names may vary by company/country):

  • Nexito Plus / Nexito LS / similar: Often contain escitalopram + clonazepam (a benzodiazepine). Clonazepam is used for anxiety and can cause drowsiness and dependence; it must be used only under strict medical supervision.

Important: Different Nexito variants have different compositions and effects. Always read the label carefully and confirm with your doctor or pharmacist which exact preparation you are taking.

3. General Uses (as prescribed by a doctor)

Nexito (escitalopram) is generally prescribed by doctors for conditions such as:

  • Depressive disorders (low mood, loss of interest, etc.)
  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Panic disorder (with or without agoraphobia)
  • Social anxiety disorder (social phobia)
  • Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Other anxiety-related conditions, as decided by a psychiatrist/doctor

These uses are general. Only a qualified doctor can decide whether Nexito is suitable for a particular person.

4. How Nexito (Escitalopram) Works – Simple Explanation

Escitalopram is an SSRI antidepressant. It works mainly by increasing the level of a brain chemical called serotonin, which is involved in mood, anxiety, and emotional balance. By blocking the “reuptake” (reabsorption) of serotonin in the brain, it helps improve symptoms of depression and anxiety over time.

5. Common Side Effects (General Information)

Not everyone gets side effects, but some commonly reported ones with escitalopram include:

  • Nausea or upset stomach
  • Headache
  • Sleep problems – difficulty sleeping or feeling very sleepy
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Increased sweating
  • Changes in appetite or weight
  • Sexual side effects (reduced desire, difficulty with erection/orgasm)

Usually, some mild side effects can appear in the first days or weeks and may reduce with time. However, any bothersome or persistent side effects should be discussed with your doctor.

6. Serious Side Effects – When to Seek Urgent Help

Contact a doctor or emergency services immediately if someone on Nexito/escitalopram has:

  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide, new or worsening depression or anxiety
  • Severe restlessness, agitation, or unusual behavior changes
  • Signs of a severe allergic reaction – swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing, severe rash
  • Seizures (fits)
  • Very fast heartbeat, fainting, or severe dizziness
  • Signs of serotonin syndrome (rare but serious): high fever, confusion, muscle stiffness, shivering, very fast heartbeat, heavy sweating
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising (especially if also on blood thinners or painkillers like NSAIDs)

7. Important Precautions

  • Prescription only: Should be started and monitored only by a qualified doctor (often a psychiatrist).
  • Do not stop suddenly: Stopping escitalopram abruptly can cause withdrawal-like symptoms (dizziness, anxiety, flu-like feelings, sleep problems). Any change in dose or stopping should be gradual and guided by your doctor.
  • Mental health monitoring: Especially in the first weeks, mood and behavior should be regularly reviewed by a doctor, particularly in young people.
  • Other medicines: Inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements, especially:

    • Other antidepressants or mood medicines
    • MAO inhibitors (past or current) – these have strict rules about gaps between medicines
    • Tramadol, some migraine medicines (triptans), linezolid, St John’s wort, lithium, etc.
    • Blood thinners (e.g., warfarin) or regular use of painkillers like ibuprofen/diclofenac (NSAIDs)

  • Existing health conditions: Tell your doctor if there is any history of:

    • Bipolar disorder or episodes of mania
    • Seizures/epilepsy
    • Serious liver or kidney disease
    • Heart rhythm problems or family history of sudden cardiac death

  • Alcohol: Alcohol can worsen drowsiness and mood; your doctor will usually advise to avoid or strictly limit it.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Must be discussed with the treating doctor; benefits and risks have to be weighed carefully.

8. Special Note about Nexito Plus / Nexito LS (Escitalopram + Clonazepam)

If your tablet contains clonazepam along with escitalopram (often written on the strip), keep in mind:

  • Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine, used for anxiety and sometimes seizures.
  • It can cause drowsiness, slowed reaction time, and risk of dependence if used longer or at higher doses than advised.
  • Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you feel sleepy or dizzy.
  • Alcohol should be strictly avoided as it can dangerously increase drowsiness and breathing suppression.
  • It should never be stopped suddenly without a doctor’s supervision due to risk of withdrawal symptoms and seizures.

9. Very Important

  • Only a qualified doctor can tell you:

    • Whether Nexito is appropriate for you
    • Which exact formulation and strength you should take
    • How long you should continue it and how to stop it safely

  • Do not start, stop, or change the dose on your own.
  • If you are already taking Nexito and have concerns (side effects, pregnancy, missed doses, etc.), contact your prescribing doctor directly.
